What is the best advice you have been given at work?
I don’t have one best piece of advice. I am constantly observing, I am constantly trying to learn more. There are so many people from whom you can draw lessons.
What is your motto, your favourite quote?
I always aim to achieve my objectives 100%. I want to succeed. But if I have invested 100%, or even more, of my energy into an idea or a project and it doesn’t work, I know I must resign myself to it. Alongside that, I also try to take my own path, to explore new avenues. Nothing new can emerge if you only follow in the footsteps of others.
What do you do to achieve your dreams?
I simply do everything to make them happen. Dreams are challenges to be met. A few years ago, I cried tears of joy, but also of blood and sweat, when I learned that the conservators of St Paul’s Cathedral in London had chosen our proposal. It was one of our largest and most prestigious interior renovation projects. We are still very proud of this achievement.
What is your favourite book, film and / or magazine?
“Our Brilliant Memory” (free translation) by neurobiologist Hanna Monyer and philosopher Martin Gessman. The way they wield their pen to explain how our memory works and its possibilities is simply fantastic. I learned that “sleeping on an idea” really works and that it can lead to more considered judgement.
What makes you happiest?
Fighting tooth and nail to secure a project, successfully completing it and then being able to visit it with my family. We are currently on a site at the Louvre and with our Research and Development department, we have found the perfect solution. I look forward to a family trip to Paris.
Who inspires you? What person do you admire?
I admire people who dedicate themselves selflessly to others. People who contribute at all levels to a better world.
