Archetype recruits sales, marketing and leadership roles for insurance businesses in Belgium: carriers that distribute through brokers, bancassurance players, commercial lines specialists and growing broker firms. Our core business is sales, marketing and management profiles, which account for over 90% of our assignments. Searches run in French, Dutch or English, on a retainer basis, take 12 weeks on average and carry a 6-month replacement guarantee. We have been doing this since 1993.

At the end of 2025, the FSMA had 4,637 registered insurance brokers, down from 5,184 at the end of 2023.

Fewer brokers, larger brokers

The FSMA 2025 annual report shows the direction of travel. At the end of 2025 its register held 8,362 insurance intermediaries, 4,637 of them brokers, down from 5,184 brokers two years earlier. The regulator links the decline to consolidation and to retirements that new entrants do not offset, and notes that brokers remain the largest category.

For a carrier selling through brokers, the account manager role shifts. Fewer offices to visit, but each one carries more weight, compares carriers more closely and expects a counterpart who can discuss portfolio profitability, tools and service quality.

What an insurance salesperson has to sell

  • To brokers: the carrier as much as the product. Acceptance speed, underwriting flexibility, claims service. Brokers can always place the risk elsewhere.
  • In bancassurance: a branch network that sells insurance alongside loans and savings, where the sales lead trains and coaches advisers for whom insurance is a side activity.
  • In commercial lines: several decision-makers at the client, from finance to HR or risk management, and a renewal to defend every year.

Compliance is part of the job. We do not replace your compliance team in judging a candidate’s regulatory knowledge; the hiring question is whether they can sell within the rules rather than around them.

Sales roles in demand in insurance

Typical roles are broker account managers, key account managers for large brokers and corporate clients, business developers for a new channel or segment, and heads of sales. We also recruit marketing managers, managing directors and country managers for foreign carriers building their Belgian presence. A role covering Flemish and Walloon brokers needs Dutch and French; group subsidiaries add English. For a broker account manager, we look first at three KOAN competencies: Customer Orientation, Perseverance, Communicating and Networking. Banks and financial firms are covered on our finance recruitment page.

We’re specialists: Sales, Marketing, Management. Not generalists. When a generalist agency recruits a Sales Director, they read the CV. We know the actual job: the real trade-offs between prospecting and farming, what it means to lead a distributed trilingual team across the Benelux, how to build a commercial strategy that holds in complex B2B. That field-level understanding is what separates a placement that lasts from one that breaks at 18 months.

The Archetype method, since 1993

Method, timing and fees

The first call challenges the brief: which channel, which brokers, how much hunting versus farming, what variable pay is realistic. Our proposal follows within 48 to 72 hours. Then a sourcing strategy, structured screening, a detailed candidate presentation with scorecard, interview transcripts and KOAN test, and follow-up through onboarding.

Fees are set before the assignment starts, in a written proposal, on a retainer basis: never a success fee. 6-month replacement guarantee.
